Reports to: Program / Portfolio Manager – Operations PMO, Metris Canada
Location: Metris Canada, 60 Northland Drive, Waterloo, Ontario
Note: Company will relocate to Townline / 401 area in Cambridge in Fall 2008

Opportunity:
The Canadian based IST group within Metris integrates our core products with a diverse range of 3-D measurement, metrology and automation technologies to provide advanced turnkey manufacturing solutions.
As part of the engineering team, this function designs and customizes laser assisted manufacturing cells including opto-electronic products, custom designed and/or COTS mechanical hardware devices, automated positioning equipment, electronic control devices, and computer controlled measurement / quality verification systems to meet specific customer requirements.
The role will require networking with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise, and periodic international travel to customer sites for engineering review meetings and commissioning activities.
Responsibilities:
- Manages projects to completion and ensures project success against agreed upon project targets, priorities, and schedule;
- Acts as the primary link with client and is ultimately responsible for customer satisfaction with respect to design, quality, schedule, cost, and fulfilling the needs of the customer;
- Leads a cross-functional team to ensure quality implementation and delivery of the solution;
- Responsible for up to date financial status of projects against budgetary expectations;
- Provide pre-sale support of proposals.
- Responsible for the overall project management of custom manufacturing cells for installation at top tier aerospace facilities all over the world;
- This includes the leadership of the project’s planning, initiating, controlling & executing, and closing activities;
- Focus on managing strategic aspects of large engagements and mitigating project risks;
- Assist sales and application staff in preparing potential solutions for customer needs and preparation of proposals.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in all nine knowledge areas of project management: Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resources, Communications, Risk and Procurement Management.
- Previous experience as project manager of advanced technology project with budgets in excess of $2 million (preferably in the Aerospace manufacturing sector).
- Experience in running a stand-alone department in a fast growing multinational company, preferably in the aerospace sector.
- Strong MS Office skills including MS Project.
- Knowledge of Quality Standards (in particular ISO 9001 and AES AS9100 or similar standards).
- Develops and implements strategic objectives and sound business practices that are aligned with the group’s strategic initiatives.
- Comfortable in a multicultural, fast-paced advanced technology environment.
- PMP designation or similar would be an asset.
Education: A university degree in engineering, science, or similar program or equivalent experience.
Compensation: Depending on qualifications. Metris Canada offers a very competitive benefits package.
Travel: Moderate travel expected.
Employment subject to candidate passing background check/security clearance. Must be eligible for CGRP and ITAR certification.
